Lil Soldier: You Have a War to Fight and Win

lil-soldier-war

What’s up lil soldier?

I know you are probably wondering why I addressed you as lil soldier. Well it’s because you are fighting the hardest battle that any human can fight- to be nobody but yourself in a world that’s trying its best to make you in to everybody else.

I have no idea what you are going through at this moment in your life, but you are a soldier because living means going to war with the many obstacles you will encounter during your journey. Quitting is never an option. Quitting is to give up on that person in your mirror. You are more important than you are yet to realize.

相信我, the last thing I want to come across as is preachy. I have been there. I was once you, and I wasn’t trying to hear shit. And like me, you are just in your stance because life is a process of becoming. Your choices will make you into something; but the big question is what will that be? I remember one day, one of the OGs told me something that still resonates with me to this day. 他說,, “Lil niggas always believe they got it all figured out, but I can tell you that the best lessons in life are the ones we learn ourselves.”

Lil soldier, I know that waiting right outside your doorstep is a culture of death, where it seems nobody wants to live any longer. And you question why strive, when from your window you witness as the ghetto looms in the night. I once upon a time felt that same pain, a yearning to monopolize my block and turn my troubles into triumphs. 但, lil homie, those corners have a story to tell! One with repetitive cycles of obstacles, like a mousetrap where you must get off before the spring snaps and traps you into a bottomless pit of darkness and destruction.

Those corners rob you of who you are, as you adopt a facade to survive. You become who your homies expect you to be, pulled by that crowd-identity. Everyday you lose sight of why you are out there, succumbing to the rat race. Are you not smarter than that little rat on the wheel running and going nowhere? I’m sure that we all can agree that there is something really wrong with a man willing to kill himself going in circles looking for normalcy; some would call that insanity, 右?

Like me, I know you believe that you know what you are doing, as if the last five generations of gangsters, 混混, 殺手, ET. AL. didn’t have it all figured out too. Where are they? 這是正確的, they are somewhere chilling out- in the ground or in prison. The blocks are ghost towns haunted by those who believed that time stood still. The truth is time moves on with or without us. And playing the block looking for a come up is a game of chance- a chance that you can possibly get rich and be a ghetto superstar among the homies. 然而, chance goes two ways, and the flip side of that chance is a nigga blowing your brains out for that pack money. That cat you work for putting that bat on you for fucking up or being $100 short and any number of other risks you take on a day trying to get that bag. And one thing is for sure; you won’t have to worry about trying to value your life because, lil homie, it will be gone! You are a witness to what’s become of those who believed they could win the game. A game for which many have played, but no one has ever won.

不要誤會我的意思, it’s cool to have friends. 然而, stay true to knowledge of self. Always bring your common sense and uniqueness to the equation. Don’t subtract from who you are to become who you think is more acceptable. If you do, years and years of false facades await you, until the day comes when you won’t even recognize who you are anymore.

The best thing we are given is our ability to think and weigh out our choices. 該 game offers all the glory you might dream of in the beginning. 然而, it’s short lived. And then you find yourself in a cage chasing the ever-elusive glory days and missing even the smallest things in life, things that we rarely pay any mind to. That’s a consequence and reality here in prison. Time moves on, fast. And no matter how hard you try to slow it down, you can never hold on to those misplaced years.

Don’t be like me. 比我好. Elevate yourself above the madness, and never hand your power over to your struggle.

The cycle never ends. Even the strongest of us hurt when forced to wave goodbye through Plexiglass. Another reality- your girl, she’s not going to put her life on hold. As time moves on, we do too. Lil soldier, you have a war to fight and win. As Malcolm X said, ” The wise man can play the clown, but the clown can never play the wise man.”

Take a stand on the frontline of life. Live and love yourself for whom you are, or be destroyed by who it is you try to become.
