Self-Made Prisons

Tired, frustrated, angered that we continue to miss these self-made prisons. Self-imposed road blocks, hurdles, obstacles. The excuses for us not to push forward and the explanations used if, by chance, we fall along the way. Angered that that we take on the mentality of a worrier and not a warrior. Frustrated that as a people we are said to be fearful of what lies ahead, so for comfort we lean on yesterday’s shortcomings.

Self-made prisons are nothing less than the results of confinement and comfortability. A willingness to accept almost anything that glitters. Too disillusioned to see that the sparkle of standing still is none other than stagnation. One block at a time, we build these prisons when we disconnect. Each time we remove ourselves from the entirety of our environment/community. Albeit the good, the bad or the ugly. Truth conquers falsehood. The good more powerful than the bad. When this is made manifest the most horrid ugly can be made beautiful.

Prisons made of our own doing, an element of nihilism. Playing the blame game. Growing up “victims” of media brainwashing, societal stereotypes, pressure from peers. Grabbing on to lies and deception that in order for we to become successful we must follow in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Michael Jordan or Jackson, Meek Millz or Tony Montana.

The shackles are tightening. We are our own captors. Imprisoned by minimal mental application. The key we have, always will, lest we forfeit it chasing nothing. By expanding our mind’s eye we open the doors of intellectual isolation, increase our chances of “being” tenfold and release our truest potential. In the process, know that we are not invincible, we are not immune to mistakes. Thus, the idea alone of us keeping on is enough to keep me hopeful but more importantly- DETERMINED!
