Prison Visit: A quick glimpse at freedom

It was just a taste
A quick glimpse at freedom
A slight touch
A brief feel

Lost in that moment, I believed. A part of me wanting it to last forever; Another part of me couldn’t wait for it to end.

Think not of my selfishness. The joy of it all can only be met with an aching pain.

Attempting to enjoy the moment, while carefully plotting a quick escape.

They wish we could be in this forever, for eternity. Ignorant to the truth that this forever destroys one’s ability to wish or even hope.

On my behalf, emotion is hidden
Afraid to hold on.
Affection openly displayed by those connected, too attached to be fearful.

Unfamiliar faces in the near all seem to share in “this” experience, thus they fail to understand.

The slight tug, pulling at fulfillment, leaving them bear empty.

Quizzed glances, a race against time, so much to be covered. So little time. The moment overthrown with anxiety. My eyes beg for them not to leave.

Don’t go!

A pleading to stay.

Unfortunately only those without fortune are directed in the direction of my richless journey.

Unworried!

Prepared to travel, to fight, to battle.

In essence their fight has already begun, just as entrenched as I. For now we both stand close, yet so far. The intensity of it all steals our smiles. Nevertheless, we know what is there.

The sacrifices made to make it greatly appreciated, so when the C.O. yells, “Visit Over!” I let go of another piece of my “self” for them to take home.
