Police Murdering Unarmed Black Men

Are the Baltimore police refusing to perform their duty unless the State’s Attorney and the public allows them to brutalize and occasionally murder black men? Perhaps this is not their intent but to many that is what it seems like. All of a sudden, when the State’s Attorney indicts six police officers, the crime in Baltimore rises to new heights. No sensible adult could look at this scenario and not contemplate foul play on behalf of the Baltimore City Police Department.

Jú, the police are a necessary part of organized society, and they have a very challenging job. Enn, why is that so many black people are brutalized and harmed in greater numbers than other ethnic groups? Look at the recent news of the biker gang massacre in Waco, Texas, that left nine dead and eighteen others injured. Reports say that literally hundred of guns were found at the scene. Even in an all out shootout no one was killed by police.

In the case of Freddie Gray, he had a four-inch knife and was arrested and ended up with his spine nearly severed in two. No wonder young black males engage police in such a hostile manner. Maybe young black males view officers, regardless of ethnicity and personal intent, as an extension of a racist system that kidnapped and murdered their ancestors.

Has anyone seriously considered that black crime and violence is a direct result of oppression at the hands of the white majority?

Not only were blacks treated as less than human during slavery, we are still treated as much less than others today. The recent cases of police brutality and killings popping up all over America, in many cases that involved an unarmed victim, prove that something is amiss. Any excuse to justify the slaughter of innocent young black males by police is unacceptable. One must understand their limitations.

If police officers are too afraid to perform their jobs humanely and effectively, doesn’t that mean they should not be police officers?

You would not let a pizza shop convince you that the only way to get pizza to you is to steal someone’s car, would you? No you would not. Yet many accept police murdering unarmed black men as simply part of the job. To allow the police to murder innocent people and not face charges is to acknowledge the police as a government sanctioned gang with the right to murder people with impunity. No society can survive such ignorance.

America must develop the courage to hold its law enforcement officials accountable.

We must also take great care to eliminate all avenues the corrupt cops of the world use to consistently escape prosecution. It is okay for officers to use force when clearly needed, but the cases of Freddie, Gray, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and many others do not fit the criteria of necessity.

While the black community awaits correction of law enforcement policy, another traffic stop becomes a murder scene. A murder scene created and managed by the police.
