Father’s Day Thoughts from Prison

Why is it that so many African-American fathers in this country are being so viciously spited by their own women and children?

One of the reasons for this spite is a simple one.

In ALL races around the world, the man is the ultimate protector of his woman and children. But in this country many African-American men have literally said, to hell with doing what’s naturally right. Many children have been left fatherless- to protect, raise, and guide themselves.

WE have selfishly given up something so sacred- fatherhood.

At one point in this great nation our children were taken away from us and auctioned off to the highest bidder. We as fathers were also auctioned off to breed as if we were cattle. Því miður, in the present day, that’s all many of us seem to be good for.

Far too many men believe they are the best father just because he supports his children financially.

What happened to supporting children mentally, culturally and spiritually?

What happened to teaching your son how become a real man of consciousness, not a rapper, actor, or athlete?

History has shown that for several generations most of us were raised fatherless by our mothers who tried their best to raise a boy into man. But the odds show, that without a father, a boy would never truly learn how to become a man. Contrary to what the naysayers claim, it takes a father of consciousness to transform his son into a man.
Því miður, feður’ loyalty nowadays is not to their children. His loyalty is to a fallacious lifestyle of deprivation that consists of materialism, substance abuse, promiscuity, and fake friends.

Shamefully, for quite some time, I indulged in that destructive lifestyle, unaware of the affects it would have on my children. That lifestyle has caused me to end up in prison. From behind these bars I have watched my daughter grow from a precious little kindergartner to a soon-to-be eighteen year old young woman, and I have literally missed out on my now thirteen year old daughter’s entire life thus far.

Whether realized or not, when we as fathers voluntarily choose a destructive lifestyle and absenteeism, í raun, we continue the quasi-disintegration that was indoctrinated centuries ago.

Is the lifestyle worth it?

NO! With that lifestyle comes karma, and ultimately you reap what you sow.

We need all fathers, in prison and out of prison, to make their kids priority number one. Then and only then, can we be begin the change so desperately needed in our communities.
