Kill the Rhetoric: End Police Brutality

Recent shots fired have entered the bodies of unarmed citizens and come out the other side only to kill policemen. All across America the anger, the fear, built up between police officers and poor minority communities is becoming weaponized. Those of us on the sidelines can’t help but wonder, where is this going? If America is to ever truly become the land of the free and a land of equality, that must start with all citizens enjoying the right to live.

No sane mind would suggest that the life of a citizen is any less valuable than the life of a police officer. No just mind would consider murdering police officers to be a suitable response to police brutality. Még mindig, the climate is growing real cold, and the right questions have not been asked.

How desperate does a person have to be to risk almost certain death in a gunfight with police?

What motivation is strong enough to give someone the courage to kill a police officer?

What influence is guiding so many police officers to murder black citizens at such a high rate?

Questions like these are aimed at solving the problem. They reach beyond the petty bickering of talking points and media’s divisiveness. These types of inquiries into the crisis at hand take into account that despite the fact that, bizonyos fokig, both sides make relevant points, the situation is getting worse. Part of the problem is that violence between police and poor minority communities is viewed as a way to gain attention rather than as tragedy. As long as people stand to gain something from the violence, it stands to reason that nothing will be done to stop it.

Another issue is America’s underlying history of racial oppression. Given that blacks have been oppressed our entire time in this country, it should be understandable that we’re suspicious of mostly white officers who commit these shootings. Is, given the suffering blacks endured at the hands of whites, it’s understandable that some whites develop a fear of black people. What isn’t understandable nor acceptable is for either side to allow those thoughts to be motivation to harm the other.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue of police use of force, you must realize that death is death, no matter who is lying on the ground. Közösen, we must take real steps toward solving the problems between police officers and poor minority communities. Otherwise we are just waiting on the next murder.
