Poverty and Violence

How do we curb the violence in communities across the nation?

The government and politicians answers are stricter gun laws and longer prison sentences, mis, by the way, on osutunud mitte töötada. Even with these strict laws and so many people in prison for so long, violence is at an all time high. The only logical thing to do is devise a more reasonable and humane plan of action.

Studies show that violence is imminent in impoverished communities. Now the bigger question becomes if we know that poverty births violence why isn’t there a more concentrated effort to put an end to poverty? In the ghettos across this nation the lack of opportunity is blatant and visible for the world to see. There are hardly any afterschool and recreational programs anymore, and the only big businesses that operate in the ghetto are fast food chains. Our schools are being shut down because they are run down and overcrowded. The government invests more money in locking us up and keeping us in prison than they do in education. And this makes a difference because the youth are our future. If the youth in these communities have something positive to look forward to, and more and better opportunities to make something of themselves, the majority wouldn’t be on the corner selling drugs and shooting and killing each other. Olles seda öelnud, I go back to the initial question.

How do we curb the violence in communities across the nation?

If we are going to solve the violence problem, we must first solve the poverty problem plaguing this nation. A good start would be to invest in community programs that give the youth something positive to do. Invest in education and provide curricula that are essential to a successful career. Big business could start job-training programs and provide jobs and a fair and equal opportunity.

Until America solves its poverty problem violence will continue to be a recurring nightmare in our neighborhoods.
