Black History Matters

Great men and women have come from Africa and have exhibited the dignity and intelligence of their ancestors. The story of the so-called black man and woman cannot be told in a few bits about slavery. For there would remain too much untold.

If we want to talk about the history of the black man we have to start with Eve, the mother of all civilization Her dark bronze skin and clever mind drew the pattern for our survival tens of thousands of years ago. Her imprint guides us to Egypt. There pharaohs like Menes and Ramses paved the way for one of the greatest civilizations ever. Hatshepsut became the longest ruling female pharaoh in Egypt, ruling for twenty years. Scientists the world over borrow secrets from Egypt to this day.

Haile Sellassie was a descendant of the union between King Solomon and Makeda- Queen of Sheba. Haile Sellasie became King of Ethiopia and was able to successfully keep Italy from colonizing his country.

What about the Zulu tribe and its Warrior King Chaka Zulu? He took power and made the Zulus one of the most feared tribes in Africa.

Who would you say was the best military strategist? Many may say Alexander the Great or maybe Napoleon. Sin embargo, Hannibal, a Carthaginian general, is one of the most brilliant strategists ever. His strategies led his army across the mountains of the Italian Alps to a near victory against Rome, the ruling power of the world at the time.

What about Mansa Musa? Historians talk of a pilgrimage he took to Mecca wherein he brought a hundred camels loaded with gold. During his rule Mali achieved the height of its expansion. Mali was the site of the world’s first university- Sankore University- not Yale or Oxford.

The truth is the so-called black man has a marvelous history spanning thousands of years before slavery. Most importantly, the intelligence, valentía, creativity, and divinity lives in all of us today. We bare the burden of showing why Black History matters

Black History Month gives us an opportunity to intentionally familiarize ourselves in such a way that will enable us to embrace our diversity to its fullest, putting unity to use for good. When we do that when we knowledgeably serve side by side there will be no stopping what we can do in the name of Jesus Christ.
