Dreams come true: A tribute to Dr. King

As we observe and celebrate the birth and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who I might add served his people well, it is perfectly normal to bask in another’s accomplishments, as those accomplishments were in the service of humanity. The noble prophet Confucius said: “When three men are working together, there is one who can be my teacher. I pick out people’s good and follow it. When I see their bad I correct them in myself.”

If we have learned anything at all from Dr. King’s noble life and works, it is that dreams do come true. Every year, until now, I have failed to realize that I was observing and celebrating (cultivating) a king right there within. He reiterated: “All men are created equal.” Meaning, he and I are one and the same. Meaning, his achievements were not self-motivated, but solely for mankind.

Dreams are but plans in foresight. When you dream something from having thought of it significantly, it becomes natural. When executed, it has familiarity and gives you a sense of right action. Parts of your brain cannot differentiate an imagined experience from a real one. This enables the ebb and flow of natural movement known as instinct.

The King or Queen in you is born with every thought, every idea, every dream to do something or be someone of great magnitude. However, it is the application of those thoughts that initiates greatness. So, remember Dr. King and never forget the King/Queen potential that lies within.

I think about observing and cultivating the inner-King not once a year, but all year. I try to bring the best out of everybody, encouraging people to act on their dreams, so that they might become.

Dr. King had a dream; Barack Obama had a dream; Frederick Douglas had a dream; Harriet Tubman had a dream; Malcolm X had a dream; You have a dream!
